Alright, alright, here we are, folks, Joe Vibe'n, coming at you live from the Hambry Newsroom's, uh, executive lounge, right next to the coffee machine. Or is it the water cooler? Doesn't matter, Jack, the important thing is we're here to talk about the big stories!
And boy, oh boy, did you see this piece? About our very own domiciles causing trouble! Seems these smart fellas, the eggheads over at the... the Institute for uh, Definitive Concoctions, they've figured out that our very own four walls are conspiring against us. Making us all... anxious.
They're saying it's all about the 'carbon mono-oxide' or something, the stuff that builds up when you keep the windows shut too tight, especially in those new, energy-efficient houses. Used to be, back in my day, we just opened a window, and everything was fine. A little breeze, a little fresh air, maybe a bee would fly in, but hey, you got your ventilation, right? None of this newfangled...
...and I remember when they first started putting in that asbestos back in the 60s, a real revolution, they called it! Warm in the winter, cool in the summer. Of course, then they found out it wasn't so good for the lungs, but for a while there, everyone was sleeping like a baby. Now, this new thing, this 'carbonated' air, it's making us jumpy. I tell ya, Jack, it's like the walls themselves are whispering to you... (whispers) ...that you left the stove on, even when you didn't. Very sneaky.
And bless their hearts, those folks, those Dr. Sputz and Dr. Fenster, over at the University of West Virginia, they really cracked the code on this one. Real heroes, figuring out what's been bugging us. Makes you wonder about all those 'haunted houses' folks used to talk about, eh? Maybe it wasn't ghosts at all, just a particularly stuffy parlor. My great Aunt Mildred, bless her soul, she swore her house on Elm Street had a specter in the attic. Turns out, it was probably just the attic fan needed a good cleaning. A good cleaning solves a lot, Jack.
You know, speaking of houses, I once tried to build a birdhouse in my garage, oh, probably 1978? Never finished it. The wood just wasn't cooperating. Felt like the nails were fighting me. Maybe that birdhouse was trying to drive me crazy! The little feathered fellas probably wouldn't have wanted to live there anyway, with all the sawdust and the old paint cans... it's a wonder anything gets built these days, with all the... the permits, and the inspections, and the new zoning laws they have in place now. It's enough to make a fella just want to go camping, pitch a tent, get some real, un-carbonated air, you know?
Anyway, Jack, it's a big, complicated world out there, full of these new discoveries. But one thing's for sure: America, the land of the free and the home of the brave, will always stand tall!
