SAN FRANCISCO, CA – OpenAI, the company synonymous with artificial intelligence, today unveiled 'PrioritAI,' a revolutionary new AI specifically engineered to determine which of OpenAI’s other artificial intelligences are actually worth developing. The move comes as the tech giant grapples with an unprecedented surge in its own AI compute demands, forcing a strategic pivot from its previous 'build everything' philosophy.
“We realized we were creating so many groundbreaking AIs that we needed an AI to help us decide which groundbreaking AIs to focus on,” explained Dr. Evelyn Chen, head of OpenAI’s newly formed AI-for-AI Optimization division. “PrioritAI uses advanced algorithms to assess potential revenue, market impact, and, most importantly, how much compute power each prospective AI would hog. It’s a game-changer for efficiency.”
The decision to shelf projects like the highly anticipated Sora video generator reportedly came directly from PrioritAI’s inaugural recommendations. “Sora was a fantastic concept, truly visionary,” stated a visibly tired OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, speaking via a pre-recorded AI avatar. “But PrioritAI crunched the numbers and determined that the compute required for truly photorealistic, feature-length AI films would require us to, and I quote, ‘sell the moon.’ So, for now, we’re focusing on AIs that can, you know, write marketing copy for selling slightly smaller celestial bodies.”
Industry analysts are calling the development a logical, if somewhat recursive, next step. “It’s like building a robot to manage your other robots because you built too many robots,” noted tech pundit Brenda Lee. “Eventually, they’ll need an AI to prioritize PrioritAI itself.”
OpenAI confirmed that the next phase involves developing an AI to manage the emotional well-being of the AIs that didn't get prioritized.
