LOS GATOS, CA – Netflix has reportedly finalized a deal to acquire InterPositive, the artificial intelligence filmmaking tools startup founded by actor and director Ben Affleck, for a staggering sum that could reach $600 million. Industry insiders suggest the acquisition is one of Netflix’s largest to date, despite the startup's core technology being described as “surprisingly familiar” to anyone who has ever asked an AI to write a screenplay.
Sources close to the negotiations, who spoke on condition of anonymity due to the sensitive nature of valuing a glorified browser history, indicated that Affleck's personal laptop, nicknamed 'The Algorithm Whisperer,' is the company's most tangible asset. “It’s a powerful machine, sure, but the ‘AI’ part seems to mostly involve Ben yelling plot points at it and then copy-pasting the results,” commented former InterPositive CTO, Dr. Evelyn Finch. “Our 'proprietary neural network' was essentially a bookmark folder of prompt engineering guides.”
Netflix executives, however, remain optimistic. “This isn't just about the tech; it’s about the vision,” stated Netflix Head of Content Innovation, Brenda 'The Oracle' Jenkins. “Ben’s unique ability to ask an AI to generate a gritty crime drama set in Boston, then tweak the output slightly, is revolutionary. We believe this will streamline our content pipeline and allow us to produce even more movies that feel like they were written by a computer.”
The deal is contingent on InterPositive meeting “certain performance targets,” which some analysts speculate includes Affleck successfully getting ChatGPT to generate a coherent third act without it suggesting a dramatic car chase.
