MENLO PARK, CA – In a move lauded by literally dozens of users, Meta Platforms Inc. announced Wednesday that its much-maligned virtual reality platform, Horizon Worlds, will remain accessible “for the foreseeable future,” effectively reversing a previous announcement to shut it down on June 15th. The decision comes after what sources describe as a brief, yet intense, internal debate over whether the company could locate the off switch.

“We heard our community, and by 'community' I mean the three people who emailed us,” stated Meta CTO Andrew Bosworth in an Instagram AMA, reportedly conducted from a virtual office that looked suspiciously like a forgotten GeoCities page. “It turns out, turning things off is hard. There are so many buttons, and we’re not entirely sure which one controls the entire metaverse infrastructure versus, say, Mark’s coffee machine.”

The initial plan to shutter the VR version of Horizon Worlds was presented as a strategic pivot towards mobile, a strategy that lasted approximately 48 hours. Industry analysts suggest the rapid reversal indicates either a profound commitment to user feedback or a complete lack of long-term planning, with most leaning heavily towards the latter.

“It’s like watching a child try to clean their room,” commented Dr. Evelyn Thorne, a digital anthropologist at the Institute for Futile Endeavors. “They announce they’re going to do it, then get distracted by a dust bunny, declare it’s too hard, and then five minutes later decide they’ll just move the dust bunny under the bed. It’s not a strategy; it’s procrastination with extra steps.”

Sources close to Meta indicate that the company is now considering a new initiative to develop an AI that can reliably remember which projects are supposed to be active and which are merely occupying server space out of corporate inertia. The AI, tentatively named 'Project Schrödinger’s Metaverse,' will operate on the principle that if no one is actively checking, the metaverse is simultaneously alive and dead.

Meta’s next strategic pivot is expected sometime before lunch.
