LAS VEGAS – The National Business Aviation Association (NBAA) today unveiled its ambitious new roadmap for the future of transportation, announcing that it will bypass all existing ground-based travel methods and proceed directly to a fully integrated 'Advanced Air Mobility' system. The move, detailed at the SDC2026 conference, aims to eliminate the perceived inefficiencies of roads, traffic, and pedestrian movement entirely.
“Frankly, we’ve been wasting valuable time on terrestrial travel,” stated NBAA President and CEO, Edgar 'Sky-High' Jenkins, during a holographic presentation. “Why bother with self-driving cars when we can have self-flying cars? Why walk when you can glide? Our members, who are already quite comfortable in the air, simply asked: 'Why not just stay there?' And we listened.”
The association's plan involves a rapid transition to a sky-based infrastructure, powered largely by AI. This includes personal aerial vehicles, drone-based delivery systems for everything from groceries to legal documents, and what Jenkins described as “vertical express lanes” for executive air taxis. Critics, primarily those still using asphalt, have raised concerns about air traffic control, noise pollution, and the sheer logistics of teaching seven billion people to pilot a personal aircraft.
“These are minor details,” retorted Dr. Anya Sharma, lead futurist for the NBAA’s 'Cloud Nine' initiative. “AI will handle the piloting. Humans will simply enjoy the view, perhaps conduct a high-altitude business meeting, or, for the truly advanced, take a mid-flight nap. The future is not just arriving; it’s ascending.”
The NBAA anticipates full implementation by 2035, at which point all ground-level infrastructure will presumably be repurposed for extreme sports or very large art installations.
