SAN FRANCISCO – Jay Graber, the outgoing CEO of the decentralized social media platform Bluesky, has been elevated to the newly created position of Chief Innovation Officer, sources confirmed Monday. The promotion comes after her tenure saw the platform achieve a remarkable feat of niche appeal, effectively innovating its way out of contention with larger, more user-friendly competitors.
“Jay’s vision for a truly open and interoperable social web has been nothing short of… unique,” stated interim CEO Toni Schneider, a venture capitalist now tasked with steering the ship. “Her ability to guide Bluesky to a place where it’s primarily discussed by tech journalists and a handful of dedicated enthusiasts is a skill we simply couldn’t let go to waste. We needed a role that specifically focused on that kind of innovation.”
The Chief Innovation Officer position will reportedly involve Graber exploring new ways to ensure Bluesky remains a fascinating case study rather than a widely adopted social network. Her responsibilities are rumored to include pioneering new user interfaces that subtly deter mass adoption and developing features that are technically brilliant but practically baffling.
“I’m excited to continue pushing the boundaries of what a social platform can be, especially if that boundary is a very exclusive velvet rope,” Graber reportedly told close associates, who then struggled to explain what Bluesky actually does. Industry analysts suggest the move is a brilliant strategic play, guaranteeing Bluesky will remain a topic of conversation in tech circles for at least another six months, primarily concerning its executive reshuffle.
