CANBERRA — In a bold move to reassure jittery global energy markets, Australia has announced its readiness to bolster stability by significantly increasing its export of liquefied natural gas (LNG). Officials highlighted the nation’s unwavering commitment to reliable supply, even as geopolitical tensions and the inconvenient truth of climate change continue to mount.
“When the world is on fire, literally and figuratively, you need a partner you can count on,” stated Energy Minister Bartholomew 'Barty' Coalfield, speaking from a newly constructed, carbon-neutral-by-2050-if-you-squint-hard-enough press conference facility. “Our gas offers not just energy security, but a sense of comforting familiarity. It’s the same reliable carbon emissions you’ve always loved, just with a fresh, Australian accent.”
The government also used the opportunity to urge trading partners to inject more capital into Australia’s gas resources, suggesting that increased investment in fossil fuels is the only logical path forward for a world facing an uncertain future. “Think of it as an investment in predictable chaos,” Coalfield added, polishing a miniature, gold-plated drilling rig. “You know exactly what you’re getting: energy today, and a slightly warmer, more turbulent tomorrow. It’s a package deal.”
Environmental groups were quick to point out the irony, with one spokesperson, Dr. Anya Green, noting, “It’s like a pyromaniac offering to put out a fire by bringing more kindling. The reliability they’re touting is in consistently exacerbating the very problem they claim to solve.”
Australia maintains that its commitment to both global energy security and its own economic prosperity remains paramount, even if it means occasionally having to explain why more fossil fuels are, in fact, the answer to everything.
