LOS GATOS, CA – Netflix, fresh off its successful foray into live sports with the NFL and WWE, has unveiled a groundbreaking new feature for its Major League Baseball broadcasts: 'Binge-Watching Mode.' The streamer, which is set to air the Yankees-Giants Opening Night game, promises to automatically skip all non-action sequences, including pitching changes, mound visits, and the agonizingly slow walk to the plate after a foul ball.
“Our data clearly shows that viewers are craving efficiency,” stated Netflix Chief Content Officer, Bela Bajaria, in a press release. “Why watch a pitcher stare blankly into the dugout for two minutes when you could be watching another 15 seconds of a different show? We’re applying the same logic that made 'Skip Intro' a global phenomenon to America’s national pastime.”
The new feature, which will also be available for the Home Run Derby and the Field of Dreams game, aims to deliver a condensed, high-impact viewing experience. Early internal tests reportedly reduced a typical nine-inning game to a brisk 47 minutes, primarily by excising all moments of strategic contemplation or, as Netflix calls it, 'dead air.'
“Traditional baseball is a marathon, but our audience prefers a sprint,” explained Dr. Evelyn Chen, head of Netflix’s Behavioral Analytics division. “We’ve identified over 30 distinct types of 'filler' content in a standard game, from players adjusting their batting gloves to fans attempting the wave. All of it, gone. You’ll get pure, unadulterated baseball, or at least, the parts that resemble a TikTok video.”
Critics are already hailing the move as either a stroke of genius or the final nail in the coffin of nuanced sports appreciation. Either way, viewers will finally be able to finish a baseball game before their pizza gets cold.
