SACRAMENTO, CA – Philanthropist and former presidential candidate Tom Steyer officially declared his intention to run for California governor, emphasizing that his vast personal wealth and an abundance of underutilized luxury assets make him the ideal candidate to lead the Golden State.
“Frankly, I’ve got a few yachts just sitting there, collecting dust,” Steyer told reporters from the deck of his 200-foot superyacht, The Green Dream, currently docked in Sausalito. “It occurred to me that if I’m not using all this perfectly good space, someone else should be. And who better to decide who that ‘someone else’ is than me, the person who owns it all?”
Steyer, who made his fortune in hedge funds, stated that his unique perspective as someone who has never once had to check a price tag would be invaluable in navigating California’s complex budgetary challenges. “I understand the struggles of the average Californian,” he elaborated, gesturing vaguely towards the distant coastline. “They want clean air, good schools, and perhaps a smaller, more practical yacht for weekend excursions. These are problems I can relate to.”
Political analyst Dr. Evelyn Thorne, from the University of California, Berkeley, noted the unconventional approach. “It’s certainly a novel platform,” Thorne commented. “Most candidates promise to raise the tide for all boats. Steyer seems to be offering to let everyone borrow his boat, provided they return it promptly and don’t spill anything.”
When asked about specific policy proposals, Steyer indicated a focus on “optimizing resource allocation,” which he clarified meant “making sure everything I own is being used to its fullest potential, for the benefit of… well, everyone.”
His campaign slogan is reportedly “Steyer: Because Someone Has To Be In Charge, And It Might As Well Be Me.”
