INDIANAPOLIS – The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) today unveiled a revolutionary new ranking methodology, moving away from outdated concepts like 'scoring more points' and 'winning games' in favor of a more holistic, 'vibe-based' assessment. The new system, effective immediately across all collegiate sports, aims to better reflect the emotional and spiritual well-being of student-athletes.
“Frankly, the old system was too stressful,” stated NCAA Senior Director of Holistic Athletic Performance, Brenda Pumpernickel, at a press conference held entirely in a dimly lit room with ambient whale sounds. “We found that forcing teams to compete for arbitrary victories was negatively impacting their collective aura. Now, a team’s ranking will be determined by factors such as their pre-game meditation consistency, post-game snack choices, and overall sartorial cohesion.”
The initial rollout has seen immediate shifts. UCLA, for instance, maintained its top spot in baseball, not for its pitching rotation, but for its 'impeccable dugout energy and commitment to sustainable hydration practices.' Conversely, Florida tumbled significantly after evaluators noted a 'distinct lack of artisanal kombucha' in their locker room and 'several players exhibiting suboptimal chakra alignment.'
Dr. Quentin Fuzz, a self-proclaimed 'sports aura consultant' brought in by the NCAA, praised the move. “It’s about recognizing the intangible. Did they play well? Perhaps. But did they *feel* well? Did they project an energy of harmonious self-actualization? That’s the real win.” Critics, mostly former coaches who still believe in things like 'defense' and 'hitting,' have been dismissed as 'vibrationally misaligned.'
Future plans include mandatory team mindfulness retreats and a new 'Emotional Support Animal' allowance for all traveling rosters.
Sources close to the NCAA suggest basketball will be next, with free throw percentages replaced by 'collective team breathwork scores.'
