NEW YORK — Veteran television producer Dick Wolf has unveiled his latest procedural drama, 'What the Dead Know,' which sources close to the production confirm will feature detectives meticulously completing incident reports, filing evidence logs, and navigating the labyrinthine municipal procurement process. The show aims to offer an unprecedented look at the 80% of police work that typically occurs off-screen.
Michiel Huisman, known for his roles in 'Game of Thrones' and 'The Flight Attendant,' is set to star as William Grant, an NYPD homicide detective described as believing 'justice is simple — black and white.' However, insiders suggest Grant will soon discover that justice is, in fact, a complex shade of beige, often delayed by missing forms and underfunded forensic labs. His character arc will reportedly involve a dramatic struggle to locate a specific stapler.
“For too long, audiences have been spoon-fed this fantasy of detectives dramatically kicking down doors and delivering pithy one-liners,” stated showrunner Brenda Carmichael. “We want to show the true grit: the endless coffee, the flickering fluorescent lights, the existential dread of a printer jam when you’re on a deadline for the D.A.”
Early script leaks indicate a pivotal scene where Detective Grant spends an entire episode on hold with IT support, attempting to reset his password to access crucial case files. The series is expected to revolutionize the genre by making viewers acutely aware of the administrative burden that cripples law enforcement.
