TUCSON, AZ – University of Arizona men’s basketball coach Tommy Lloyd has vehemently dismissed rumors linking him to the vacant head coaching position at the University of North Carolina, assuring reporters his entire focus remains on his current team. However, multiple anonymous sources close to the coach indicate that his public statements may not fully reflect his private activities, which reportedly include a significant investment of time into personal branding and professional networking.
“My commitment is 100% to these players and this program,” Lloyd stated emphatically during a press conference, reportedly while subtly checking his phone for email notifications. “Any talk of other jobs is pure speculation and frankly, a distraction we don’t need right now.”
Yet, a source within the athletic department, who requested anonymity to avoid being subjected to mandatory LinkedIn endorsement requests, confirmed seeing Lloyd’s office computer screen displaying a partially completed cover letter addressed to “A Prestigious East Coast Institution.” Another insider noted a sudden, inexplicable surge in requests for professional references from individuals who had not spoken to Lloyd in years.
“He’s been very busy,” commented one staffer, observing Lloyd’s recent acquisition of a new, crisply tailored suit. “Like, ‘suddenly very interested in what the housing market is like in Chapel Hill’ busy.”
Lloyd concluded his remarks by reiterating his dedication to Arizona, before excusing himself to take a “very important, personal call” that was overheard to begin with, “Yes, this is Tommy. I’m just calling to follow up on my application.”
