CAMBRIDGE, MA – Brentford FC majority owner Matthew Benham, speaking at the MIT Sloan Sports Analytics Conference, reportedly lauded head coach Keith Andrews for his 'outstanding' performance during a period of 'high risk' for the club. Sources close to the situation confirm Benham's definition of 'outstanding' appears to be 'not intentionally driving the team into the ground after star players left.'
Benham, known for his data-driven approach, explained to presenter Roger Bennett that losing key players significantly increased the 'probability of relegation.' This groundbreaking insight, which many fans had intuitively grasped by observing the empty spaces on the pitch, was apparently a critical factor in evaluating Andrews's performance.
“When you have two vital components walk out the door, the risk profile changes dramatically,” Benham stated, presumably while gesturing at a complex spreadsheet displaying the concept of 'fewer good players equals worse team.' “Keith’s ability to continue coaching the team, rather than, say, burning down the stadium or replacing the squad with mascots, was truly exemplary.”
Club spokesperson, Fiona Davies, elaborated, “It’s easy to overlook the simple act of showing up and performing one’s duties when the chips are down. Mr. Benham believes that not actively contributing to the club’s demise deserves significant recognition.”
Andrews is reportedly now being considered for a Nobel Prize in Basic Human Functioning.
