SACRAMENTO, CA – Governor Gavin Newsom issued a stern, albeit one-sided, directive to tech mogul Elon Musk this week, urging him to cease his current trajectory and recommit to his primary function as America’s designated disruptor and electric vehicle messiah. Newsom’s remarks came amidst growing anxieties that Musk’s recent ventures into social media chaos and controversial political endorsements are diverting crucial attention from the sacred mission of dominating the global EV market.
“We had a good thing going here,” Newsom stated, reportedly gesturing vaguely towards a whiteboard adorned with charts depicting California’s projected EV sales. “Elon was supposed to be leading the charge, inspiring a generation of innovators, and, frankly, making America look good on the world stage. Now, he’s… well, he’s doing other stuff. And frankly, it’s disappointing.”
Sources close to the Governor’s office, who spoke on condition of anonymity because they were actively trying to avoid direct eye contact with their phones, indicated that Newsom views Musk’s current activities as a significant breach of contract in the unwritten agreement between American billionaires and the public’s expectations of them. “The script was clear: innovate, inspire, occasionally tweet something cryptic but ultimately harmless,” explained one aide. “Not… whatever this is.”
Environmental policy analyst Dr. Brenda Albright of the Institute for Perpetual Progress noted the governor’s frustration is understandable. “For years, we’ve relied on a few key figures to embody our national aspirations. When one of them goes off-script, it creates a vacuum. Who’s going to single-handedly solve climate change and colonize Mars if Elon is busy rebranding X to ‘𝕏’ and engaging in online spats?”
Newsom concluded his impromptu press conference by suggesting that while healthy competition is welcome, it’s imperative that America’s designated eccentric genius remains focused on the tasks assigned to him by the collective subconscious, lest China fill the void with their own, less entertaining, visionaries.
