PALO ALTO, CA – A newly formed advocacy group, 'The Hostile Takeover Coalition,' announced today its formal petition to governments worldwide, demanding the implementation of a Monopoly-inspired penal system for Airbnb guests who fail to adhere to house rules. The coalition, representing thousands of property owners, argues that current guest review systems are insufficient to deter infractions ranging from unapproved parties to leaving a single unwashed coffee cup.
“We’re not asking for much, just a fair and equitable system where guests face immediate, tangible consequences,” stated Brenda Sterling, a founding member of the coalition and owner of three 'boutique' desert yurts. “If you trash my artisanal macrame wall hanging, you should be forced to draw a 'Chance' card that might send you directly to jail, or at least make you pay a luxury tax on your entire stay.”
The proposed system includes 'Community Chest' cards for exemplary guests, offering perks like a waived cleaning fee or an extra roll of toilet paper. However, the focus remains on punitive measures. Repeat offenders could face property forfeitures, with their personal belongings being sold off to cover damages, much like mortgaging properties in the popular board game.
Dr. Alistair Finch, a behavioral economist from the University of California, Berkeley, noted the potential psychological impact. “The fear of landing on 'Boardwalk with a hotel' is a powerful motivator. Applying that same dread to leaving a passive-aggressive note about the Wi-Fi password could revolutionize guest compliance.”
The coalition plans to unveil a fully functional prototype of their 'Guest Justice' board game at an upcoming industry conference, complete with miniature jail cells and tiny, regretful guest pawns.
Critics suggest the proposal might be 'a tad extreme' for a hospitality service, but Sterling remains unfazed. “They’ll learn. They all learn. Especially when they can't collect $200.”
