LONDON – Indie rock darlings Wet Leg made their debut on the premiere episode of 'Saturday Night Live UK' last night, performing two tracks to an audience reportedly expecting a far more literal interpretation of the band's name. Sources inside the studio and across social media indicate widespread confusion among viewers who tuned in hoping for a segment involving actual wet, disembodied legs.
“I settled in with my cuppa, ready for some proper British surrealism, you know? Maybe a sketch with some wellies full of water, or a tap-dancing chorus line of damp prosthetics,” commented Doreen Plumb, 78, from Kent. “Instead, it was just… a band. With guitars. And their legs were quite dry, actually. Very disappointing.”
Producers for the new British iteration of the long-running American sketch show were reportedly blindsided by the public’s literal expectations. “We thought the name was rather clever, a bit whimsical,” stated showrunner Alistair Finch, wiping his brow. “It never occurred to us that people would anticipate a segment involving, well, the direct translation. Perhaps 'Dry Torso' would have been a safer choice.”
Social media platforms were awash with comments ranging from mild bewilderment to outright outrage. #WhereAreTheWetLegs trended briefly, alongside #FalseAdvertising and #BringBackTheLimbs. One viewer suggested the BBC was “holding out on the good bits,” while another demanded a refund for their television license.
In related news, a spokesperson for the band, who wished to remain anonymous, confirmed that despite their name, no band members possess any unusual aquatic limb characteristics, nor do they plan to incorporate them into future performances. The band’s next tour is reportedly being rebranded as 'Wet Leg (The Band, Not Actual Wet Legs)' to avoid further public disappointment.
