Hickory, NC – Following a nationwide search, Hickory City Schools today unveiled its new Chief Technology Officer, Brenda 'The Fixer' Rodriguez, whose primary mandate is reportedly to ensure that every teacher can successfully connect their laptop to the classroom projector without a 15-minute troubleshooting session involving multiple dongles and a prayer circle. The district hopes this appointment will usher in a new era of digital learning, or at least prevent another 'blue screen of death' incident during the annual science fair.
“Our students deserve a seamless educational experience, and that starts with the ability to display a PowerPoint presentation without needing a dedicated IT degree,” stated Superintendent Dr. Evelyn Hayes, wiping a bead of sweat from her brow. “Ms. Rodriguez’s innovative vision includes concepts like ‘HDMI compatibility’ and ‘reliable Wi-Fi,’ which we believe will revolutionize our classrooms.”
Rodriguez, a former IT manager for a regional office supply chain, expressed enthusiasm for the challenge. “My first priority is to inventory every VGA cable in the district,” she told reporters, adjusting her multi-tool belt. “Then, we move onto the mysterious ‘guest network’ password and the perennial problem of why the smartboard only works with the teacher’s personal tablet, but not the school-issued one.”
Sources close to the school board indicated that a significant portion of the district’s technology budget for the next fiscal year has been allocated to purchasing “adapters that actually fit” and a dedicated helpline for teachers who accidentally switch the input to 'AV2'.
If successful, the district plans to tackle the even more ambitious goal of ensuring school computers can open a PDF document without crashing.
