LOS ANGELES – Gkids has announced it has acquired distribution rights for Hirokazu Kore-eda’s latest feature, 'Look Back,' a live-action adaptation of the popular manga. Sources close to the production confirm that Kore-eda, already credited with adapting, directing, and editing the film, is now rumored to be personally overseeing the color grading, sound mixing, and even crafting the artisanal popcorn for premiere screenings.
“Mr. Kore-eda believes that true artistic vision can only be maintained if he physically touches every single frame,” stated studio spokesperson Brenda Fogel, adjusting her glasses. “He’s currently negotiating to design the promotional posters, write the press releases, and possibly operate the projection booth himself. It’s a bold new model for auteur filmmaking.”
Critics are divided on the approach. “While admirable, one must question the efficiency,” noted film historian Dr. Alistair Finch. “At this rate, the film might be a masterpiece, but it’ll be released sometime after the heat death of the universe.” Others praise Kore-eda’s dedication, suggesting it’s the only way to ensure a film truly reflects its creator’s intent in an increasingly commoditized industry.
When asked about the rumors of him taking on the catering, Kore-eda was unavailable for comment, reportedly busy hand-stitching the velvet seats for the film’s eventual theatrical run.
