JOHANNESBURG – Producers of the highly anticipated 'I’m a Celebrity… South Africa' series have unveiled their 'all-star' cast, confirming what many viewers had already suspected: the term 'all-star' now primarily refers to individuals who have achieved a certain level of public recognition through repeated appearances on similar competitive reality programs. The lineup boasts a roster of familiar faces, each having previously graced screens in various states of mild discomfort or manufactured drama.
“We’re incredibly excited to bring together this constellation of… well, people,” stated showrunner Brenda Carmichael in a press release. “Each of our 'stars' has demonstrated an unparalleled commitment to the genre, proving they can not only survive in the jungle but also generate compelling content while doing so. Many of them have even done it before, which really streamlines the training process.”
Critics of the casting choice, primarily those who still remember when 'stars' were known for things other than their ability to feign surprise at a surprise eviction, were quick to voice their non-surprise. “It’s a brilliant strategy,” commented Dr. Alistair Finch, a cultural anthropologist specializing in televised human degradation. “Why risk a true unknown when you can recycle a proven commodity? It’s the reality TV equivalent of a cinematic universe, only instead of superheroes, you get D-list celebrities eating ostrich anus.”
The show is expected to deliver record-breaking viewership among those who appreciate the comforting familiarity of watching semi-famous individuals navigate challenges they’ve already mastered in previous seasons, all while pretending it’s their first time.
