HARRISBURG, PA — The Pennsylvania Golf Course Owners Association (PGCOA) today announced the appointment of Mike Hendrix as its new Senior Technology & Data Advisor, a move sources confirm is primarily aimed at teaching members how to unmute themselves on Zoom calls.
Mr. Hendrix, whose previous experience includes troubleshooting a printer for his grandmother, will be responsible for guiding the state’s golf course proprietors through the bewildering landscape of modern digital tools. His immediate priorities include demonstrating how to attach a PDF to an email and explaining why the Wi-Fi signal is weaker in the clubhouse basement.
“This is a pivotal moment for golf in Pennsylvania,” stated PGCOA President, Bartholomew 'Barty' Calloway, 87, during a press conference where he frequently looked directly into the camera’s lens, rather than at the reporter asking the question. “For too long, our members have been forced to rely on their grandchildren to explain what a ‘browser’ is. Mike is going to change all that.”
Industry analysts are cautiously optimistic. “It’s a bold step,” said Dr. Evelyn Finch, a professor of digital transformation at the University of Scranton, who requested the interview be conducted via landline. “Many of these owners still believe ‘the cloud’ is just where their golf balls go after a particularly bad slice. Hendrix has his work cut out for him.”
Mr. Hendrix is expected to begin his tenure by conducting a statewide audit of all golf course websites to determine how many are still running on Flash.
