BIRMINGHAM — Aston Villa Football Club today announced the appointment of former Everton manager Brian Sørensen as their new Technical Advisor, a role sources close to the club describe as primarily involving 'being present in rooms' and 'occasionally nodding thoughtfully.' The 45-year-old Dane's return to the Premier League is expected to bring a vital, yet undefined, presence to the Villa Park hierarchy.
“Brian brings a wealth of experience in… well, being around football,” stated Villa CEO Christian Purslow in a press release that carefully avoided specifics. “His unique perspective, honed through years of observing the beautiful game, will be invaluable as we continue to… do things.” When pressed for details on Sørensen’s day-to-day duties, a club spokesperson, who wished to remain anonymous, clarified, “His job is to observe. And exist. It’s a very important, very modern role.”
Sørensen himself expressed enthusiasm for the challenge, telling reporters, “I’m looking forward to advising technically. What that entails precisely, we’ll discover together. But I’m confident my presence will elevate the technical atmosphere.” Industry analysts suggest the appointment is part of a growing trend where top clubs create high-level positions dedicated solely to adding an extra, vaguely credentialed, body to the executive box.
Sources indicate Sørensen’s first major task will be to attend meetings and provide “critical, non-actionable insights” during coffee breaks.
