UNITED NATIONS – The United Nations Security Council today wrapped up a marathon three-hour session dedicated to the urgent matter of establishing a new committee. The proposed body, tentatively named the 'Ad-Hoc Working Group on the Impact of Emerging Technologies on Vulnerable Youth in Conflict Zones and Related Educational Disparities,' aims to explore the feasibility of future discussions.
"This was a monumental achievement in bureaucratic foresight," stated Ambassador Kaelen O'Malley, a permanent representative who requested anonymity to speak freely. "We meticulously debated everything from the optimal number of sub-sub-committees to the precise shade of beige for the official letterhead. These are the foundational elements upon which all future inaction will be built."
The council’s focus on process over immediate solutions was praised by observers. Dr. Aris Thorne, a leading expert in international institutional inertia, noted, "It's vital to ensure that any response to a crisis is so thoroughly vetted and proceduralized that by the time it's ready, the crisis has either resolved itself or evolved into something entirely new, thus requiring a fresh committee. It's the circle of global governance."
Sources close to the negotiations indicated that the next step involves drafting a resolution to commission a white paper on the terms of reference for the committee that will eventually draft the mandate for the working group. The council expects to reconvene sometime in the next fiscal quarter, or whenever the catering budget allows, whichever comes first.
