CULVER CITY, CA — Sony Pictures Television announced today the departure of Eli Holzman and Aaron Saidman, co-heads of its unscripted division, following what sources describe as a prolonged period of confusion regarding their department’s core mission. The duo, responsible for hits like 'The Go-Big Show' and 'Project Runway,' reportedly spent years under the impression they were developing avant-garde, experimental dramas.

“Every pitch meeting was like watching a slow-motion car crash,” stated former intern Chloe Davis. “They’d get so excited about a concept, then someone would gently remind them, ‘Eli, Aaron, this is for unscripted. We need real people, not actors. And no, the dragon isn’t real.’ They’d just stare blankly.”

According to an anonymous studio executive, the final straw came when Holzman presented a 12-season arc for a show about a plucky young lawyer fighting corporate corruption, only to be told it sounded “remarkably like a scripted drama.” Saidman, meanwhile, was reportedly still trying to cast Meryl Streep in a competitive baking show.

“It’s a tough business when you’re constantly trying to innovate within the confines of, well, reality,” a Sony spokesperson commented, adding that the search for new unscripted leadership would focus on candidates who “understand that ‘unscripted’ means ‘no script,’ not ‘a script so good it feels like real life.’”

Industry insiders suggest the pair may now pursue careers in improvisational theater, where their unique approach to narrative development might finally be appreciated.
