MAMMOTH LAKES, CA – Mammoth Mountain Ski Area has unveiled its latest innovation in extreme winter sports: the 'Suspended Animation' package, inspired by a recent viral video of a skier dangling from a lift. For an additional fee, thrill-seeking patrons can now opt for a curated experience designed to replicate the heart-stopping moment of near-catastrophe.
“We heard the public’s cry for more authentic, high-stakes experiences,” stated Melanie 'Melly' Liftworth, Director of Extreme Guest Engagement at Mammoth Mountain. “While safety is always our top priority, we also recognize that some guests crave the raw, unadulterated terror of a potential 50-foot drop. Our new package delivers that, with the added comfort of knowing there’s, like, a 70% chance you’ll be caught.”
The 'Suspended Animation' experience reportedly involves a specialized harness that allows guests to be briefly—and intentionally—dislodged from their seat, hanging by a single, reinforced strap for approximately 45 seconds. A trained 'Catch-A-Buddy' specialist, often a former competitive rock climber, is stationed below with a net, just in case.
Early reviews are mixed, with some participants praising the “unforgettable rush” and others questioning the ethics of monetizing potential trauma. “It was exhilarating, but I think I peed a little,” reported one participant, Chad Broseph, 32. “Worth the extra $150, though. My Instagram is blowing up.”
Mammoth Mountain officials confirmed that the new package is already proving popular, especially among influencers seeking unique content. They are also exploring a 'Freefall Friday' promotion for guests who prefer to skip the safety net entirely.
