TOKYO – Capcom announced today that its increasingly complex Resident Evil franchise will now mandate a 150-hour 'Biohazard Lore Immersion' prerequisite for all new players. The move comes after critical feedback suggesting the latest installment, 'Resident Evil Requiem,' was largely unintelligible without a master's degree in Umbrella Corporation conspiracies and the complete family tree of every minor character from 1996.
“We understand that jumping into 'Requiem' as a newcomer might feel like trying to solve a Rubik’s Cube while simultaneously defusing a bomb and reciting the entire history of European monarchies,” stated Kenji Tanaka, lead narrative architect for the series. “This course, available for a small fee, will ensure players grasp essential concepts like 'who is Leon Kennedy again?' and 'wait, is this a zombie or just a very aggressive neighbor?'”
The curriculum reportedly includes 50 hours of cutscene compilation, 75 hours of wiki-diving exercises, and a mandatory 25-hour 'emotional processing' module to cope with the sheer volume of retcons. Players will also be required to identify all 37 distinct types of bioweapons and their respective origin stories.
“Frankly, it’s a relief,” said long-time fan Brenda Chen. “Now I won’t have to explain to my friends why the protagonist is suddenly a werewolf, then a vampire, then just a guy who really likes flashlights. They can just learn it themselves.” Critics suggest the next logical step will be an in-game pop quiz before every boss fight.
Capcom is reportedly exploring a similar 'pre-flight checklist' for the upcoming 'Kingdom Hearts' titles, which sources say will require a full theological seminary degree.
