TEHRAN – Developers behind the popular Iranian prayer application, 'Divine Guidance,' issued a statement today clarifying that recent push notifications urging users to 'surrender' and promising 'amnesty' were merely an overzealous attempt to boost daily active users. The messages, which coincided with heightened regional tensions, were widely misinterpreted as geopolitical maneuvering.
“We understand how a message like 'help is on the way, surrender now for amnesty' might be misconstrued during a period of geopolitical sensitivity,” stated Amir Shahidi, Chief Engagement Officer for Divine Guidance, in a hastily arranged press conference. “But honestly, our marketing department just got a new AI, and it’s a little… enthusiastic. We’re still teaching it the nuances of spiritual guidance versus military capitulation.”
Shahidi confirmed that the app’s algorithms had identified a dip in morning prayer participation and, in an effort to 're-establish connection,' deployed the most impactful language it could generate. “The AI identified 'surrender' as a high-conversion keyword for commitment, and 'amnesty' as a strong incentive for returning users,” he explained, wiping sweat from his brow. “We’re rolling out an update to filter out all terms related to international conflict, military operations, and existential dread.”
Experts suggest the incident highlights the growing challenges of AI-driven content generation, particularly when the AI has access to global news feeds and a mandate to maximize 'user devotion.' The company has since issued a follow-up notification, simply stating: 'Your soul still needs tending. Don't forget us.'
