RAMALLAH – In a bold and unprecedented move to avert imminent collapse, the Palestinian Authority (PA) today unveiled a new 'PA+ Subscription Service,' designed to shore up its finances and maintain its precarious existence. The initiative, dubbed 'Operation Self-Sustain,' will offer tiered access to basic governmental functions, with a premium package promising actual, tangible governance.
“For just $19.99 a month, citizens can access our 'Basic Bureaucracy' tier, which includes digital birth certificates and a 10% chance of your complaint being filed in the correct department,” announced Dr. Fadi Al-Hassan, newly appointed Chief Monetization Officer for the PA, speaking from a conference room powered by a single, flickering fluorescent bulb. “Our 'Executive Elite' tier, at $49.99, guarantees a response to your inquiry within three to five business weeks, and exclusive access to a functional street light in designated areas.”
Experts are cautiously optimistic. “This is a groundbreaking approach to statecraft in the 21st century,” stated Professor Anya Sharma, Head of Post-Colonial Fiscal Absurdities at the University of Unintended Consequences. “Why rely on dwindling international aid when you can charge your own populace for the privilege of being governed, however nominally?”
The PA also hinted at future 'micro-transactions' for advanced features, such as 'Border Crossing Fast Pass' and 'Infrastructure Repair Loot Boxes.' Critics, however, questioned the sustainability of a model where the product (governance) is largely theoretical. “Will the premium tier include, like, actual sovereignty?” quipped local resident Jamal Abu-Sitta, attempting to pay his electricity bill with a 'Basic Bureaucracy' coupon.
