NEW YORK — Veteran television personality Kathie Lee Gifford has confirmed she has been in a constant state of readiness to guest host NBC’s 'TODAY' show since her departure in 2019. Her remarks come amid current anchor Savannah Guthrie's absence, which, according to Gifford, merely provided the perfect public opportunity to reiterate her unwavering availability.
“It’s not a matter of *if* they call, but *when*,” Gifford reportedly told a potted plant she was addressing as 'Hoda' earlier this week. “My hair is always done, my vocal cords are always warmed up, and I have a complete wardrobe of brightly colored blazers at a moment’s notice. I even keep a small, fully functional green room in my basement, complete with a mug of chardonnay and a framed photo of Regis.”
Sources close to the production, who spoke on condition of anonymity because they were hiding under a desk, indicated that the 'TODAY' show has, in fact, been aware of Gifford’s perpetual readiness. “We get a daily fax from her detailing her schedule, her current thoughts on Jesus, and a list of potential guest segments,” said one terrified intern. “It’s less an offer and more a continuous, low-frequency broadcast.”
NBC executives are reportedly considering installing a direct line from Gifford’s home to the control room, if only to save on fax paper.
